The Bintan Offshore Marine Centre (BOMC) spool base in Bintan, Indonesia, has achieved a new milestone.

Mort Daly, President Director of PT BOMC said, “In January 2021, the BOMC spool base reached operational status to start producing spool base stalk lengths of up to 2kms in length. The first stalk length of 1.8km was completed for 18-inch pipe with an overall diameter of 24-inches incorporating the outer coating on the 13 February, which is a monumental achievement for this permanent multi-user spool base.”

A spool base is a shore-based facility used to facilitate continuous pipe laying for offshore oil and gas production.

This project has been achieved during the COVID-19 pandemic by the very dedicated BOMC team who have worked diligently with clients and governments to make this possible.

The focus is now on the arrival of the first spooling vessel to spool these stalk lengths onto its reel and sail to the offshore field to start the sub-sea installation of the spools in Q2.

Chairman of BOMC, Michael Sousa said, “The BOMC facility at 2km is one of the longest multi-user, permanent spool bases in the world providing significant efficiencies for spooling projects across Australia and Asia”.
