Leveraging BOMC’s strategic location and comprehensive marshalling yard services, the full scope of work was expertly managed to safely load 42 large reels and 5,100 tons of mooring chain. This included the provision of all necessary equipment and skilled labour from the BOMC site, ensuring that the cargo was prepared and loaded in full compliance with stringent biosecurity regulations.

BOMC’s facility is ideally suited for projects requiring staging and marshalling yard services prior to onward shipping to the final project site.

Located within a free trade zone, BOMC offers state-of-the-art equipment, expert labour, over 12ha of waterfront land, deep water berths with 10 metres depth, and world-class operational and safety standards – ensuring the capability to meet even the most rigorous of client project requirements.

Qube and BOMC have been preparing key client subsea mooring equipment for mobilisation to offshore Australia – and we’re excited to share an update.

Utilising our strategic location at BOMC as a project marshalling yard, we offer our clients key project cost savings and world class operational standards.

Our BOMC yard team has stored and maintained 42 pennant reels at 42MT per piece, 12km of 6-inch diameter mooring chain collectively weighing more than 5,100MT, and other equipment.

This mega load was safely moved wharf side and is ready to be loaded, transported and installed subsea for our client's 27,000 tonne floating field control station.

BOMC and Subsea7 forge exclusive long-term partnership for the Spoolbase in Bintan.

Bintan Offshore Marine Centre (BOMC) is proud to announce the signing of an exclusive long-term agreement with Subsea7 for the continued operations of the BOMC Spoolbase in Bintan.

Since commencing operations in 2020, the BOMC Spoolbase in Bintan has rapidly established itself as a regional leader in offshore pipeline fabrication. The inaugural project, Julimar Phase 2, marked a significant industry milestone with the successful production of 18-inch insulated CRA pipe—an industry first. Since then, the facility has delivered over 103 km of reeled pipeline across three major projects, all safely installed in Australian waters by Subsea7’s Seven Oceans vessel.

Purpose-built in collaboration with Subsea7’s Pipeline Group, the Bintan Spoolbase integrates over four decades of global pipelay expertise. The facility is equipped to handle a wide range of complex pipeline specifications, including CRA pipe, MetClad, and Mechanically Lined Pipe, using advanced, fit-for-purpose technologies tailored to each project’s unique requirements.

As the only permanent spoolbase in the Asia Pacific region, BOMC Bintan plays a critical role in supporting Subsea7’s offshore installation capabilities via the reeling method. This approach ensures high-quality pipe preparation in a controlled onshore environment, ahead of offshore operations, significantly reducing offshore time, operational risk, and overall project costs—while enhancing safety and delivery standards.

Strategically located with direct access to a deepwater port and expansive laydown areas, the facility is ideally positioned to serve key offshore markets across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. With a proven track record in Australia, the Spoolbase is now poised to support the growing demand for subsea tie-back developments throughout the region.

Chris Ratajczak, Subsea7 VP Asia Pacific said: "We are proud to continue our partnership with BOMC. Over the course of three successful projects, we’ve developed a highly effective way of working together, leveraging our respective strengths. This agreement reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative, efficient subsea solutions and strengthens Subsea7’s position in the Asia Pacific region."

Michael Sousa, BOMC Chairman, said: “In a short period of time, BOMC has proudly established a strong reputation and market leading position for its state-of-the-art facilities and world class safety and quality systems. We are delighted Subsea7 has chosen to extend our partnership and we look forward to continuing to support them in the development of further high quality reeled pipelay scopes for safe installation and operation.
